Burning micturition is a very common clinical
condition in medical practice. It presents a varied etiology and the
feeling of burning is due to irritation of the urethra by the urine.
Cystone (The Himalaya Drug Company, Mumbai) contains extracts of Didymocarpus
pedicellata (Pathar phori), Saxifraga ligulata (Pathar chati), Rubia
cordifolia (Manjishta), Cyperus scariosus (Nagarmotha), Achyranthes
aspera (Apamarga), Onosma bracteatum (Gaozaban) and Vernonia cinerea
(Sahadevi), Shilajeet and Hajrul yahood bhasma. Hajrul yahood bhasma
is prepared with Ocimum basilicum (Tulsi), Tribulus terrestris (Gokhru),
Mimosa pudica (Lajwanti), Dolichos biflorus (Kulthi), Pavonia odorata
(Bala), Equisetum arvense (Jor tor), Tectona grandis (Sagwan seed),
etc.
Two hundred patients
of varying age groups suffering from burning micturition of varied
etiology were studied for the clinical effects. There were 149 males
and 51 females. Cystone tablets 1 to 3 tablets were administered
three times a day, doses varying with the age of patient and the
severity of the condition and no other medication like alkaline
mixture, antibiotics or sulpha drugs were used.
It was observed that
27 developed burning micturition after fever, 6 in very hot weather,
12 post-coitus, probably gonorrhoeal, 14 post-venereal and 23 had
burning micturition associated with spermatorrhoea. Venereal basis
was not common in many cases.
Microscopic examination of urine done in 114 cases
revealed:
Large number of pus cells 5 cases
2-5 pus cells 53 cases
Red blood cells 3 cases
Calcium oxalate crystals 9 cases
Triple phosphates 3 cases
Nothing abnormal 41 cases.
On close inquiry regarding the clinical
response the results were classified as very good response, fair response
and poor response. When the patients had subjective relief within
two days with no recurrence the results were classed as very good
and if satisfactory response was obtained after 3 to 5 days, it was
considered fair and when response was not obtained after 7 days these
cases were considered probably resistant ones.

This study indicates
that Cystone tablets are of great clinical value in burning micturition
of varied etiology and they have no toxic or untoward effects.
Cystone tablets were tried in 200 cases of burning
micturition of varied etiology. There was very good response in
110 cases, fair in 59 and no response in 31 cases, thus giving relief
or cure in almost 84 per cent of cases. No toxic reaction was observed.
The results observed in this study were very satisfactory.
