Several co-operatives of tribal communities
in the rain forests of the South and Central India now have links
with one of the oldest Indian pharma companies, headquartred in
Bangalore.
The Himalaya Drug Company launched
its latest product "Himalaya Forest Honey" available in
500g and 250g bottles.
The President and Chief Executive Officer,
Ravi Prasad, said that the honey was being sourced from the tropical
rain forests, through co-operatives of traditional gatherers of
honey. As the honey came from wild flowers of the region, it had
medicinal value, associated with certain wild plants.
"Himalaya Forest Honey has no
added sugar or preservatives. It has lower calories and has reduced
pollen content to prevent allergies. Every time you buy it, you
are also supporting the tribal inhabitants of the forests,"
the company's Executive Director, Research and Technical services,
S.K.Mitra, said.
