The Himalaya Drug Company (HDC) has come out with an alternative
to controversial hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for women.
According to Mr. Philipe J Haydon, General Manager Pharma Marketing,
HDC, it has come out with 'Menosan' for management of menopausal
symptoms and Reosto to combat osteoporosis.
"The products promoted via the ethical route has been launched
at a time when the medical fraternity globally is looking at an
alternative treatment to handling menopause and osteoporsis conditions
in the wake of the HRT", he said.
Both the products are formulated with herbo-minerals like calcium
in its natural form, phytoestrogens to restore hormonal balance,
analgesic agents and vitamin D. Menosan is priced ar Rs 2 per tablet
in a pack of 60, it will be an alternative to HRT. Whereas Reosto,
is priced at Rs 1.50 per tablet in a pack of 60 tablets.
"It is meant to be a low-cost therapy for osteoporosis, which
accounts for over 1.5 million fractures a year, mostly among women",
said Mr. Haydon. The company is likely to garner Rs 7 to 8 crore
in one year from these two new products.
