Night of Music, Melody & Lilt for Himalaya Consumers
September 27, 2006

It was an evening of breathtaking music for Bangalore’s ghazal lovers, with Jagjit Singh, one of India’s most versatile singers, performing for them at a concert sponsored by Himalaya. Known for his soulful voice and meaningful lyrics, he wove webs of nostalgia around the audience with favorites like Kaagaz ki Kashti and Aahista Aahista. The combination of his lilting voice, powerful instrumental interludes and an appreciative audience, made the evening memorable.

To make this celebration all the more special we invited a few of our loyal customers with an interest in Ghazals, to join us in experiencing the magic of Jagjit Singh’s live performance. It was our way of showing how much we appreciated their interaction with us- from giving us valuable feedback, telling us what we could do better and what we are doing right- these customers have become part of Himalaya’s family.

One of the customers who attended the evening had this to say ,” Thanks a lot Himalaya, for giving us a chance to be a part of a great evening.  We enjoyed the concert and party very much…, thank you very much for the invitation and organizing such a great event.”

Well, the pleasure was all ours!

Having given the world Scientific Ayurveda, which is Ayurveda backed by modern scientific research, we would now like to extend our philosophy of contemporarizing India’s tradition for a global, cosmopolitan audience, to other spheres. We want to promote music, art, theatre, dance and other cultural events which capture the spirit of India in a contemporary and dynamic way, such that it appeals to a cross section of audience, particularly the youth.

What is remarkable about Jagjit Singh is that he has not just kept alive the rich tradition of Ghazals but has made it appealing to a younger generation. A person listening to remixes and fusions, can also connect with the depth of poetry in his ghazals. Very few artists inspire these feeling in so many people and fewer still can do this for decades.

We truly believe that while it is always interesting to see an assimilation of cultural influences, it is equally important to preserve one’s own cultural heritage, which in many ways is the living soul of a country’s history.
