Himalaya's founder, the late Mr. Manal, a humor enthusiast, had a joke for every occasion! He believed beyond a doubt in the therapeutic benefits of laughter. So much so, that in 1950, he started a humor club, Humour Unlimited, the members of which would meet regularly to share a few jokes and have a good laugh!
An idea, which occurred to Mr. Manal at this time, was to use the medium of laughter to help people enjoy better health. This led to the publishing of a book of jokes called, 'Laughter the Best Medicine', which was distributed to doctors. It proved to be so popular that further issues were compiled, starting a Himalaya tradition. A total of 9 issues were compiled before 2005 and in January 2006 we published the 10th edition!
Today, world over scientists, academics and researchers are all trying to understand the importance of humor and the effect it has on our health. Psychiatrist William Fry in Humor and Aging says, "It is estimated that the impact on the heart of 20 seconds of hearty laughter is comparable to 3 minutes of rowing.the best aerobic exercise for conditioning the entire body and promoting longevity."
Mr. Manal, always far ahead of his times, understood just how important laughter is to one's holistic health and well being and made this an integral part of Himalaya's philosophy. We are proud to carry this tradition forward and bring some good cheer and health to your life. |
